Dangers of Birth Control Medications (Part 2-Chemical Abortions)

A couple of weeks ago I started telling you how I found out just how dangerous birth control medication (and other contraceptives) are. ?If you missed it, you can find Part 1 by clicking on the link. ?Today I will continue with the topic, giving you as much information as I can, to help you make the best decision for your health and the health and well-being of any unborn offspring of yours.

If you read the first post and saw some of the comments under it, you could quickly notice that women, despite of birth control supposedly being the female sexuality liberator, actually end up feeling trapped by it. ?Not only do we experience all of the side effects of using BC, but we are also forced to become the sole responsible party for pregnancy planning/avoidance. ?Not only do we have to give up the highs of experiencing sexual intimacy, since BC?suppresses?our hormones, but we are also stuck feeling like we are the ones responsible for being responsible, and our loving partners have the free ticket to have all the fun in their lives.

Besides some of the comments under last post, I also received several private emails, in which women were saying pretty much the same thing: ?I do not want to be on birth control, but? my husband/boyfriend, does not like using the condom, so he wants me to go on birth control.? The theme was the same?the men feel like what they have to give up in order to avoid pregnancy is somehow more important than what the women give up?sexual pleasure, health, and at times, their very own lives (more about that in the next post). ?So, the lies you have been told about birth control (contraceptives in general) being your liberator, ladies, are just that?sugar coated lies! Do you think that the MAN-kind would ever willingly put themselves in dangers of heart attacks, cancers, blood?clots, death, weight gain, hormone imbalances, miscarriages, and giving up sexual pleasure for the sake of ?responsible family planning?? I think not! ?So, why do you allow yourself to be pressured to feel this way?!

In the last post I told you about my lesson learned from using birth control (BC from hereon), symptoms and pains of using it, of which I tried: the pill, the patch, and the ring. ?In short, the physical and the emotional side effects were?unbearable?to handle. ?Not only did BC make my pre-hypothyroid condition worse, by blowing it up into

And to consider, this is not an exhaustive list of everything I was going through while on BC. ?What I was going to learn as I was searching to reverse hypothyroidism blew my mind and broke my heart a million times over?things that the medicine inserts do not tell you about.

Heartbreaking Revelations

Just over 5 years ago, when Hubby and I became vegan to save his health, I quickly realized just how dangerous BC can be, yet, I felt lost and reluctant to quit BC immediately, not knowing what else we could do to actually plan our family (i.e. kids ;) ). ?Had I fully realized then that even if I went off BC I still could not conceive, because of what BC did to my body, I would have been off in in a heart beat. ?It took me a few more months to finally be honest with myself and admit that I HATED what BC was doing to me: spirit, soul and body, and look for options.

Thankfully the OBGYN I was seeing at that time, although he was not good for anything besides this, offered a connection to a local organization, through the Catholic church, to teach women about natural family planning. ?So, hubby and I quickly signed up?I wanted to be off BC, and we also wanted to begin our preparation to conceive. ?It was during our sessions with our coach when I finally read through the BC inserts, did even more research and found out some truths that stopped my heartbeat a few times.

Birth Control Causes Miscarriages (i.e. Abortions)

Don?t throw stones at me yet. ?I am NOT saying that all miscarriages are abortions. ?I would never do that. ?I have known too many women who suffered the heartbreak of a miscarriage or multiple miscarriages of the children they longed for and wanted. ?No, I am saying that chemically induced miscarriages are, in fact, abortions, whether we are aware of them or not.

It was the truth which, when I learned about, sent me into a dark, dark place for a few days. ?There was agony and tears and a lot of ?what if?s?. ?I found out that ?escape? or ?breakthrough? ovulation, followed by a conception and miscarriage can occur while on any form of?contraceptive, even if you use it 100% as prescribed. ?Breakthrough?ovulation?happen in millions ?of women every year!?The hormones in BC are supposed to suppress naturally?occurring?monthly ovulation in a woman, thus preventing conception. ?There is evidence, however, that it does not always work as?intended. ?No medication can ever guarantee 100% results. ?Occasionally an egg escapes its lodging and ovulation occurs. ?If it happens that the couple is intimate at that time, a conception follows. ?But what happens after is nothing short of a nightmare. Since the normal hormone production is suppressed at that time in the woman?s body, a fertilized egg does not have enough support to properly implant and grow, so it either becomes a very quick?miscarriage, without the couple ever knowing about it, or, as one of my readers in the last post had tragically experienced it several times over, the fertilized egg implants and starts growing, but then the miscarriage occurs?regardless, because the woman?s body is out of balance.

And, please, if you are going to read this and tell me that there are many women who get pregnant on BC and have healthy babies, so if it?s meant to be, it?s meant to be, do not leave a comment! ?For every?survival?conception there are millions of those who never make it, and they, just like the others were ?meant to be?.

I know that now you want some facts, not just my word, so here they are.

Breakthrough Ovulation?

While I was?surprised?to learn about breakthrough?ovulation, it seems that the BC?manufactures?knew about it from the beginning.

Initially, when chemists devised?the Pill, which was released in?1960, they gave it to women in a huge dose of a chemical that caused most women?s ovaries to stop secreting eggs (i.e., to stop ovulation), so they theorized that since there was ?no egg, no pregnancy.? ?However, some women continued to release eggs and became pregnant while even on the original, high dosage pill.

Dutch gynecologist Dr. Nine Van der Vange, in her award winning study of women taking the earlier high dose pills,??showed ?proof of ovulation based on ultrasound exams and hormonal indicators occurred in about 4.7% of the cycles studied.? (Source: Sterns, Dr. David, ?How the Pill and the IUD Work: Gambling with Life,? American Life League, PO Box 1350, Stafford, VA 22555)

The ?Textbook of Contraceptive Practice? states that,??Among women who have been followed over a considerable number of cycles, breakthrough ovulations occur in 2 to 10 percent of cycles.??(Source: Dr. J. Peel & Dr. Malcolm Potts, Textbook of Contraceptive Practice, 1969, Cambridge, Cambridge University Press)

So, the original pill in 1960s was stronger and was assumed to be effective. ?However, due to harmful side effects that women were experiencing because of the powerful chemicals it had to be modified. ?Today?s ?Combination Pills? have a reduced hormonal content, which reduces?(it does not take them all away!) the chance of harmful side effects for women, but at the same time it also increases their chances of ovulating and conceiving.

Dr. Ronald Chez, a scientist at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), publicly stated that the new pills, with their lower estrogen dose,?allow ovulation up to 50% of the time!?(Source: Sterns, David, M.D., Sterns, Gina, R.N., B.S.N., Yaksich, Pamela, ?Gambling with Life, How the I.U.D. and ?The Pill? Work? (www.top.net/vitalsigns).

Reactions with other drugs increases the chances of?breakthrough ovulation, especially with caffeine and nicotine, or some prescription medicine (Source: ?Abortifacient Contraception: The Pharmaceutical Holocaust? by Dr. Rudolf Ehmann, Human Life Intl., 1993, p.15).

And what about the new??mini-pill?, which?claims not have the side effects of the combination pill? Scientific research shows?the mini-pill?does not stop ovulation at all in 67-81% of the women who use it, so the probability of conception is much higher. (Source: Tonti-Fillippini, Nicholas, Linacre Quarterly, 1995)

Paddy Jim Baggot, M.D., Ob/Gyn, Fellow of the American College of Medical Genetics, states,??Scientific papers suggest that escape ovulation occurs 4-15% of all cycles in patients taking birth control pills. Thus? early chemical abortions are a real and significant concern.?

In 1978 the FDA (Food and Drug Administration)?that:

?Combination oral contraceptives . . . [make] alterations in the genital tract including changes in the . . . endometrium (which?reduce the likelihood of implantation)?. . . but progestogen only contraceptives [re: mini-pills] are known to alter the cervical mucus, exert a progestational effect on the endometrium,?interfering with implantation.??(Emphasis added)

Is this convincing enough? ?It would be for me, but I can always give you more. ?I also know that now some of you, hopefully as heartbroken as I was, are thinking: ?Well, it?s the pill. ?What about using other forms of contraception??

Breakthrough Ovulation for Other Contraceptives

  1. Norplant has breakthrough ovulation 50-65% of the time.
  2. Depo-Provera has breakthrough ovulation 40-60% of the time.
  3. The IUD has breakthrough ovulation 100% of the time.
  4. With over 17 million American women using the Pill and other chemical abortifacients, it is estimated that?breakthrough?ovulation and pregnany occurs so often . . . that between?7 to 12 million?newly conceived children are killed by chemical abortions in the womb each year. And most of these women never even knew they were pregnant.

(Sources for the four points listed under Breakthrough Ovulation Estimates above are as follows: 1. Hilgers, Dr. Thomas, ?Norplant? Linacre Quarterly, 1993, p.64-69. 2. ?Infant Homicides Through Contraceptives,? 1994 by the Study of Abortion Deaths Ad Hoc Commission ? Bardstown, KY. Ph: 502-348-3963. 3. ibid. 4. ibid.) [Source]

I won?t have the time or the place to cover all contraceptives, but I will tell you that even the tube ligation (known as ?tying tubes?) has the same abortifacient dangers. ?The ovulation still occurs in a women, thus the conception is always possible, however, since the tubes are ?tied? a conceived baby has no chance of?implanting, thus?ectopic pregnancy?occurs, which always puts the baby?s life in danger, not to mention that it also endangers the life of the mother.

Why Breakthrough Ovulation Occurs and How Contraceptives Work

(Source)

The Pill has three mechanisms of action, which can be confirmed in the Physician?s Desk Reference:

  1. Sometimes, the pill suppresses ovulation. When this happens, an egg is not released and conception cannot occur;
  2. The pill is supposed to thicken the woman?s cervical mucus which can ?restrict? sperm from moving up the reproductive tract toward the egg;
  3. the pill?interferes?with the flexing motions and the cilia movement of the?Fallopian?tubes, which, if conception occurs,?slows the transportation of newly conceived child from the fallopian tubes to the womb. Unfortunately, many newly conceived ?babies starve to death in the?Fallopian?tubes because, because they cannot reach the womb in time to be nourished and kept alive;
  4. if it happens that the newly conceived baby survives the ride down the?Fallopian?tube to the womb, the pill will almost always cause the endometrium (the lining of your uterus) to reject the baby. ?Chemical reactions, caused by the pill, often cause the lining of the womb to become thin, shriveled and unable to support implantation of the newly conceived child.

What does all this mean? ?It means that if you have a breakthrough ovulation and conceive, in almost every case, your child will not be able to attach to the wall of your womb where he or she would normally live. ?It also means that your tiny baby will starve to death and his will be passed along in your next menses. (The ?Study of Abortion Deaths Commission? estimates that this happens in women in America who use the pill approximately 1 to 4 million times each year.)

The chemicals that cause these early abortions are called?abortifacients?which is the medical term for any chemical agent that causes an abortion.

What Gave Me Some Peace

There really was no peace in my heart for a long time, having found out these facts. ?I was torn apart. ?I?repeatedly?poured my heart out to God asking to forgive my ignorance, and, as the time went on and even being off BC, I could not conceived and was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and a pituitary gland tumor, I hoped that my severe hormone?imbalance?would have prevented any possible breakthrough ovulation altogether. ?I know it is odd, but at such moments I was grateful for my infirmities.

Next Time

I think this is enough hard food for thought for the day. ?Don?t you? ?This is a lot to digest.

  • Next time I will go through some of the specific contraceptive, telling you what I found in their inserts, and what the inserts do not tell you, as well as some legal cases against the manufacturers of contraceptives.
  • In the last?installment?I will talk about safe, healthy ways to plan your family, while keeping peace in your heart and your body healthy.
