Jack the cat has been missing at JFK airport since Aug. 25, shortly after owner Karen Pascoe checked him in with American Airlines.

(UPDATED Aug. 31, 9:45 a.m.):??Karen Pascoe has accepted American Airlines' offer to fly her back to New York's Kennedy airport to look for her missing cat.

?I'm working with AA to get out there by Friday a.m.,? said Pascoe, who added that there have been?no Jack sightings as of Wednesday. American is reviewing closed-circuit TV footage to see if it can figure out how Jack escaped.

Jack the cat has been on the loose in the American Airlines baggage center at?the airport since Aug. 25, shortly before Hurricane Irene barreled through town. The airport was shut down for most of the weekend, but reopened Monday.

Pascoe was flying with her two adopted cats, Jack and Barry, to San Francisco last Thursday to start a new job in California.

The cats, too big to fit comfortably in one under-the-seat cat carrier, were flying in separate carriers as cargo. But shortly after the cats were checked in, Jack went missing.

?I said goodbye to cats and then went to get dinner,? said Pascoe. ?And then I got a call from American letting me know Jack was out of the kennel.?

The cat didn?t appear when Pascoe went to the baggage area to call out to Jack. Pascoe had to leave without finding him because the other cat and the rest of her luggage were on the last flight to San Francisco. ?That?s a giant baggage area, and he was nowhere to be found. At best I knew he was hiding somewhere,? said Pascoe.

Pascoe was assured the airline would keep looking for Jack and that she?d get a call with an update the next day. But no one called, and when Pascoe tried calling the baggage area on the weekend, no one answered the phone.

?I respect the fact that a hurricane was coming and things were a bit challenging,? said Pascoe, ?but I didn?t hear from American until about 60 hours later.?

American's silence prompted Pascoe?s sister to set up the ?Jack the Cat is Lost in AA Baggage at JFK? Facebook page over the weekend, which now has more than 8,000 fans.?Pascoe also set up a Twitter account?about the search for Jack.?

Many?pet lovers also posted notes on?American Airlines? Facebook page urging them to find Jack, prompting the airline to post responses about its efforts to?locate the missing cat.

?Our JFK employees are using a variety of methods to try to find Jack, including setting cans of cat food by his kennel," American Airlines spokesman Ed Martelle?told msnbc.com. "Additionally, we are working with the Mayor?s Alliance for New York City to assist in providing humane animal traps ? We offer our sincere regrets for this incident and are doing everything possible to locate him.?

Pascoe credits Facebook and Twitter, and other animal lovers, with getting the airline to finally pay attention. She said?she finally got a call from someone at American Airlines on Sunday and on Monday spoke with an assigned contact person in the airline?s central baggage claim department four times.

?I can?t help but feel a little frustrated that they didn?t have a better procedure in place,? said Pascoe, ?but they?re finally stepping up and are on their game to help me.?

?Transit workers were still waiting for winds to die down before they could inspect the entire system,? the New York Times reported. ?But an initial survey revealed flooded subway tracks, powerless commuter rail networks and fallen trees and branches that had rendered some rail routes impassable.?

?The New Haven line of the Metro-North Railroad had no power because of downed wires along its route,? the newspaper reported on its website. ?Parts of the Metro-North track along the surging Hudson River were flooded. Subway lines in parts of Brooklyn were also inundated. Bus service remained suspended.?

Meanwhile, major airports in the region remained closed, and airline officials said they didn?t expect to begin operating until late Monday or Tuesday.

For the most part, roads, bridges, and tunnels in and around New York are in good shape, although with public transit out of commission that may only mean heavier-than-usual traffic on city streets as commuters drive to work.

A look at the Metropolitan Transit Authority?s web site tells the story.

?MTA crews are reporting widespread impacts following Hurricane Irene, including track and yard flooding, downed trees and power outages across our region,? the MTA reports. ?Low-lying yards and depots where trains and buses were removed were flooded. It will take time to get equipment back into position and personnel in place. In some parts of our system, especially heavily flooded areas outside of New York City, restoration of service may be a lengthier process.?

In retrospect, says New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, shutting down the transit system ahead of the storm was the right decision, even though Irene turned out to have less impact than some had predicted.

?It allowed us to get a lot of the equipment off the tracks and in safe condition, so when we start the system up again it will be accelerated? Gov. Cuomo told the cable channel NY1 Sunday.

Still, Cuomo acknowledges, ?We haven?t really done a thorough damage assessment yet.

?We need to look at the tunnels and see to what extent there?s been flooding, and we need to examine some of the railroad bridges,? he said. ?So until we do a full damage assessment, it?s really too early to say.?

Steve Jobs stepped down this week as CEO of Apple after running the company for nearly 25 years.

The first Macintosh computer, the iPod audio player and most recently the iPad are just a few of the products Jobs created that have changed the way millions of people live their lives.

Comparisons can be drawn between Jobs and other great American innovators like Thomas Edison and Henry Ford, both technological titans in U.S. history.

The Henry Ford Museum just outside of Detroit is a shrine to all sorts of American innovation. The museum includes Edison's laboratory complex and the Wright Brothers' original bike shop.

Marc Greuther, chief curator at the Henry Ford Museum, told weekends on All Things Considered guest host Laura Sullivan that a common ground between Edison, Ford and Jobs is their understanding of latent needs.

"No one was banging on the door at Menlo Park requesting electrical light," Greuther says. "[Similar] to the iPhone, no one was wandering around clamoring for a personal computer in their pocket."

Little did we know that's exactly what we wanted, Greuter says. Jobs and his collaborators, much like innovators in the past, figured that out and said, "You don't think you need this, but you're going to love it."

"That for me is a signature part of innovation," Greuther says.

Though Edison was most certainly an inventor, both he and Jobs can be considered a mixture of both inventor and innovator to current technology. Edison was also acutely aware of how ensnared a person could get in imagining complex devices that couldn't be produced, Greuther says.

"If we can think of a typical inventor we could imagine someone who is eager to create a device but who then didn't necessarily have any plan for taking it further," he says. "Edison was adamant that anything he invested his time in actually had some possibility in the marketplace."

Bringing a product to market is one area where Jobs reigned supreme.

At his product releases, wearing his trademark black turtleneck and jeans, Jobs' stage performance and presentations became a hallmark of the Apple brand. In the early days of the Model T, Ford was equally intertwined with the company and its products, Greuther says, as was Edison.

"There was a sense that these were all products that were all very close to the names associated with them," he says. "They weren't just goods with a brand stamped on them; so I think that follows through to Steve Jobs and Apple as well."

Great inventors and innovators of technology no doubt share some similar traits, tenacity among the most prominent, Greuther says. Edison, Ford and Jobs also all had a sense of vision and the ability to articulate that vision.

"The beautiful thing is that you can analyze this to a high degree, you can start partitioning out all manner of behaviors and traits," he says. "I think that's part of the magic of how we encounter visionaries and leaders of this sort. ... There are extra elements in there that [are] hard to pin down."

ORANGE, Calif. ? A 7-month-old baby boy who was tossed from the fourth floor of a hospital parking structure has died.

Police Sgt. Dan Adams said Wednesday that the boy died in the morning at the University of California, Irvine, Medical Center.

The boy's mother, 31-year-old Sonia Hermosillo, has been charged with attempted murder and felony child abuse in the case.

Prosecutors say she took off a special helmet that her son wore for a medical condition and tossed him over the edge of the parking structure at Children's Hospital of Orange County before validating her parking and driving away.

The boy's father has said his wife suffers from post-partum depression and was distraught their son was disabled.

INDIANAPOLIS - The competition for Washington's starting quarterback job is all square.

John Beck led the Redskins to scores on each of their first four possessions, kept the ball for more than 23 minutes in the first half and relied on that fast start to get Washington past the Indianapolis Colts 16-3 on Friday night.

He looked sharp and efficient and played mistake-free ? the perfect counterpunch to Rex Grossman's impressive performance last week.

"I know they're confident in him, I hope they're confident in me, and I don't know how it's going to play out," Beck said. "I can only worry about me, and I just try to focus on that and be the best that I can."

So far, so good.

Beck finished 14 of 17 for 140 yards with no touchdowns and, perhaps more important, no interceptions while playing the entire first half. He was sacked three times by the defending AFC South champs.

Grossman started the second half and was 7 of 12 for 88 yards with one interception and one sack. Last week in the first half, Grossman, a former first-round draft pick and Super Bowl starter, was 19 of 26 for 207 yards with one touchdown against defending AFC champion Pittsburgh.

Round 3 will be at Baltimore.

"I thought he did a good job, it's nice to get him some playing time," coach Mike Shanahan said. "I know all these guys have been looking forward to it, and it's one of the reasons we played Rex there in the third and part of the fourth quarter."

Indianapolis has grown accustomed to these early losses. The Colts have lost eight straight preseason games and are 4-24 since 2005 before the regular season.

But the Colts have rarely been as lethargic and inept as they were Friday.

Curtis Painter started for the second straight week in place of Peyton Manning, still recovering from offseason neck surgery, and Painter struggled again. Despite playing the entire first half, Painter was just 5 of 10 for 40 yards and picked up only one first down. He couldn't get Indy past its 29-yard line.

Defensively, it wasn't any better for the Colts.

Against the starters, Washington outgained Indy in yardage 277-41, had almost three times as many plays (41-14) and had two 50-plus yard runs.

Colts coach Jim Caldwell didn't like it one bit.

"I'm not real pleased with some of the things that went on out there. A lot of the things, I should say," Caldwell said. "We could tackle a lot better. They had an opportunity to control the clock on us, particularly in the first half. They ran the ball well. A couple of big plays popped loose on us. Those, you have to control."

The Colts offense was missing Manning, receivers Austin Collie (knee), Anthony Gonzalez (hamstring) and Reggie Wayne (personal matter), and the defense played without tackle Tommie Harris (hamstring) and linebacker Ernie Sims (appendix). The Colts also lost Pro Bowl safety Antoine Bethea on the game's second play, and rookie cornerback Chris Rucker, a second-round pick, later in the first quarter ? both with hamstring injuries.

Washington played without safeties LaRon Landry (Achilles' tendon) and Oshiomogho Atogwe (hamstring), tight end Chris Cooley (knee), middle linebacker London Fletcher (groin) and cornerback Josh Wilson (groin).

Tim Hightower found a huge hole on the game's second play and ran 58 yards. Four plays later, he plunged in from the 1 for a 7-0 Redskins lead.

Beck then set up Graham Gano for three short field goals ? from 28, 27 and 26 yards ? to give the Redskins a 16-0 advantage with 1:48 left in the first half.

Indy's lone score came on a 55-yard field goal from Adam Vinatieri midway through the third quarter. The Colts' only other scoring chance was thwarted when Shanahan successfully challenged a 40-yard completion from Dan Orlovsky to Taj Smith that would have put Indianapolis inside the Washington 15.

"He (Beck) did a great job. Offensively, he did what he had to do," Hightower said. "He moved the ball, he didn't try to force anything, he executed the offense pretty well. That says a lot about him, but it says a lot about the offensive line, as well."

Kardashian, Humphries wed in TV-friendly ceremony (omg!)

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Kris Humphries has officially caught up with Kim Kardashian. The basketball pro and the reality star are husband and wife.

Kardashian, 30, and Humphries, 26, tied the knot Saturday night in the exclusive Montecito area near Santa Barbara, Calif., Kardashian publicist Jill Fritzo told People magazine and E!

The ceremony will be televised as a two-part special on E! in October.

It is the first marriage for Humphries, who last played for the NBA's New Jersey Nets, and the second for Kardashian, star of E!'s "Keeping Up with the Kardashians." She was married to music producer Damon Thomas from 2000 to 2004.

People and E! reported Kardashian wore an ivory gown designed by Vera Wang. Her stepfather, Bruce Jenner, walked her down the aisle in front of 440 guests, including Demi Lovato, Mario Lopez, Eva Longoria, Sugar Ray Leonard, Alan Thicke and Lindsay Lohan.

Kardashian's gown had a tulle skirt, basque waist and Chantilly lace, and was matched with a pair of Giuseppe Zanotti shoes, the media outlets reported. The bride planned to wear two other Wang dresses before the night and the party were over.

Her sisters and TV co-stars Kourtney Kardashian, 32, and Khloe Kardashian, 27, served as co-maids of honor.

The groom wore a white peak lapel tuxedo jacket, black tuxedo pants and, a white shirt and a white bow tie, all designed by Ermenegildo Zegna.

Kardashian and Humphries began dating late last year and announced their engagement in May. He proposed on bended knee with a 20.5-carat ring by spelling out "Will you marry me?" in rose petals.

Since the couple's engagement, the pending nuptials have provided constant fodder for the media and the Kardashians, who posted updates about the wedding on their blogs and websites.

The waves of hype that preceded the ceremony didn't seem to faze the bride. Earlier this week, Kardashian said she was "totally calm" about the much-hyped ceremony.

"I think that freak-out moment kind of already passed," she said at a party Wednesday to launch her new clothing line at Sears.

401k roll over to traditional IRA, or take the tax hit now and put ...

I have a 401k I want to roll over to an IRA. Ideally, I?d like to open and place the money in a Roth IRA and get it free and clear when I retire. I don?t think I can do that though.. I think I can only roll it over to a traditional pre-tax IRA. If that?s the case, would it be better to take the tax/penalty hit from the 401k and put the money into a Roth and be set, (I am just out of school looking for a new career and wait tables now, so hopefully my tax bracket is the lowest it will be in my lifetime at this moment) or is it more prudent to just convert it to traditional IRA and go with that? Just looking for good solid opinions from people in the know.
