LITTLE ROCK, Ark. ? Potential jurors are being questioned in the trial of a man accused of fatally shooting a soldier outside a military recruiting station in Arkansas.
Jury selection resumes Tuesday in the capital murder trial of 26-year-old Abdulhakim Muhammad. Seven jurors have been chosen, though five more plus alternates must be selected before opening statements can begin.
Muhammad has confessed to killing 23-year-old Pvt. William Andrew Long and wounding Pvt. Quinton Ezeagwula in Little Rock in 2009. He says the shootings were in retaliation for U.S. military action in the Middle East.
Defense attorneys say there's no disputing Muhammad shot the soldiers, but they say he's mentally ill. If convicted, he could be sentenced to death.
Muhammad was born Carlos Bledsoe in Memphis, Tenn., and changed his name after converting to Islam.
