Ford introduces Mountune upgrades for the Focus ST & Fiesta ST

FORD OFFERS FOCUS ST AND FIESTA ST WITH POWER-BOOSTING MOUNTUNE UPGRADES

  • Ford announces official power-boosting Mountune upgrades for Focus ST and Fiesta ST
  • Mountune Focus ST delivers 275PS ? 10PS more than a Porsche Boxster for ?15,000 less ? and races from 0-62mph in less than six seconds
  • Mountune Fiesta ST delivers 215PS and sprints from 0-62mph in 6.7sec ? beating the Mercedes-Benz SLK 200 AMG Sport
  • Official upgrades can be fitted in 90 minutes or less and are covered by Ford warranty
  • Available in UK from September at ?1,225 for Focus and ?599 for Fiesta ? each upgraded model still costing less than standard rivals (Volkswagen Golf GTi, Peugeot 208 GTi and Renaultsport Clio 200)

Brentwood, Essex, 16 July 2013 ? Ford?s critically acclaimed Focus ST and Fiesta ST hot hatches just got hotter with the introduction of official Mountune upgrades.

The packages are developed by race engine and road-car performance specialist Mountune, and boost output from the Focus ST?s 2.0-litre EcoBoost engine to 275PS ? 10PS more than a Porsche Boxster which costs ?15,000 more (?38,237).

Even the legendary Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500 would be left with a rear view of the Mountune-upgraded Focus ST, which can sprint from 0-62mph in less than six seconds ? more than half second faster than the standard Focus ST.

Ford is also offering an official Mountune upgrade for the Fiesta ST, which will increase maximum power to 215PS*, enabling 0-62mph acceleration in 6.7sec, compared with 6.9sec on the factory model ? faster than a ?35,865 Mercedes-Benz SLK 200 AMG Sport.

The Mountune upgrades boost both Focus ST and Fiesta ST in-gear acceleration too. Peak Focus ST torque, heightened to 400Nm, improves 31-62mph acceleration in fourth gear by 0.8sec to 4.9sec, while peak Fiesta ST torque, enhanced to 320Nm*, improves 31-62 mph acceleration in fourth gear by 0.7sec to 5.7sec.

Any of the UK?s 120 Mountune-appointed Ford dealers will be able to fit the upgrade ? in under 60 minutes for the Fiesta ST, and less than 90 minutes for the Focus ST. Both are fully compatible with the Ford warranty, meaning Mountune modified vehicles continue to be covered against mechanical failure for three years or 60,000 miles from the original date of purchase.

?Ford?s ST models already deliver blistering performance ? for these Mountune upgrades we have squeezed out every last drop of fun and served it on a plate to the fans that are as passionate about performance as we are,? said Tyrone Johnson, Ford Team RS engineering manager.

The Focus ST Mountune upgrade includes a cast alloy inlet duct (silver or black powder coat finish), high-flow air filter element, larger alloy intercooler (silver or black powder coat finish) and unique calibration. The Fiesta ST version has a re-modelled air box base with secondary inlet duct, a high-flow filter element and unique calibration.

The Focus ST Mountune upgrade, at ?1,225 for silver and ?1,275 for black, still means the boosted Focus costs less than a standard Volkswagen Golf GTi. The Fiesta ST Mountune upgrade costs ?599**,with the finished Fiesta costing less than both the standard Peugeot 208 GTi and Renaultsport Clio 200 Turbo.

?We worked hand-in-hand with Ford engineers to deliver what we believe is the best bang-for-buck value on the market,? said David Moore, Mountune marketing manager.

Warlow meets his maker on 'True Blood'

TV

Image: Bill from "True Blood"

John P. Johnson / HBO

Hey, Warlow! Who's your daddy?

Sunday was a Father's Day of sorts on "True Blood," but it sure wasn't a holiday. Instead, it was time to take a closer look at the dads of Bon Temps and all the dark drama that surrounds them.

Dad? Mom? Billith?
It all started when Sookie had her deadly ball-o-light aimed at Warlow. But rather than firing at will, she gave the ancient vamp a chance to explain himself. He told her he was no danger to her at all. In fact, that whole killing-her-parents-thing from so long ago? It was just a big misunderstanding. He didn't want to kill them, but they wanted to kill her -- so he didn't really have a choice.

Huh?

After hearing that bombshell, Sookie slammed Warlow with enough light that the sensation reverberated all the way to his maker. And just who sired the oldest living half-vampire? Well?

"As your maker, I command you: Come with me," Bill, suddenly on the scene, said to Warlow.

Huh?

As it turns out, proto-vamp Lilith made Warlow what he is, so Billith is his proud pop. Bill's also the man still looking for some magical fairy blood -- and it doesn't get much more magical than what Warlow has.

Still a father to one fairy
As for Bill's other progeny, Jessica, she looked on with horror as Andy Bellefleur discovered his dead daughters strewn all over the living room of the Compton estate. She beat a hasty retreat just a little too soon to see that there was actually one survivor among fae -- barely.

A desperate Andy carried No. 1 (or was it 2 or 3 or maybe 4 -- he really should have named those girls) back to the station and dished up some V, fresh from the evidence locker. It was enough to save her.

Son of a dog
Alcide had his dad safely by his side as he continued his quest to find Sam the shifter, Sam's pesky new pal and little Emma. After talking up the locals at a backwoods bar (to little affect), Alcide decided to turn to dad for advice.

But Jackson just had a question for his son. "Are you doing this 'cause you think it's the right thing to do, or are you doing it to impress that piece of ??" Ahem! He meant Rikki, the official pack troublemaker.

With those words barely out of Jackson's mouth, Alcide threw him to the floor and warned him to obey his pack master.

Just one problem with that. Jackson never joined his son's pack -- which seems like reason enough not to tell Alcide about his Sam-spotting the following morning.

Devoted dad
When Eric learned that the LAVTF goons took Pam to Vamp Camp (now home to half the fangers in Bon Temp -- including Jess), he and Tara turned themselves in.

It almost seemed like a good idea; that is until the governor (with more than a little help from the former Mrs. Steve Newlin and the current vampire Steve Newlin) decided to get revenge on Eric for turning his daughter into a member of the undead.

Eric was put in a room with a stake and forced to face off against his only other progeny -- Pam.

In an earlier psych experiment, Pam claimed she felt nothing for he maker, but it was clear by the looks on both of their faces, that was neither true nor mutual.

Deadly daddy
Sookie was desperate to find out if what Warlow said about her parents was true. That's the only reason she would possibly consider asking Lafayette to reach out to the great beyond and get the inside scoop. After all, when he pulls his Miss Cleo routine, things rarely go well.

And this time was no exception. It seems Papa Stackhouse really did want to kill Sookie -- to keep Warlow from getting his fairy-vampire hands on her. To make matter worse, he still wants to kill her. Now that he's in control of Lafayette's body, he just might do it too.

Expect all of the daddy drama to carry over to next week. After all, Eric has a big choice to make, Andy has a big loss to get revenge for and Sookie's dad still has some work to do if he's really going to keep her down.

Sports briefs: Maria Sharapova hires Jimmy Connors as coach

Tennis ? Maria Sharapova has hired Jimmy Connors as her new coach.

A day after announcing she was parting with Thomas Hogstedt, Sharapova posted on her website Saturday that she would work with the eight-time major champion.

Connors coached Andy Roddick for two years before resigning in 2008. He briefly worked with Sharapova before the 2008 Australian Open.

Hogstedt coached Sharapova for nearly three years. She said Friday he wouldn?t be able to travel in the near future and they agreed she should find a new coach.

A winner of the career Grand Slam, the second-ranked Sharapova was upset in the second round at Wimbledon this year. She said, "I am really excited about our new partnership and looking forward to the upcoming tournaments."

UFC confirms rematch of Weidman, Silva

MMA ? Chris Weidman, who won the UFC middleweight championship in an upset, will face Anderson Silva again on Dec. 28, UFC announced.

Weidman had landed a left hook to the chin of Silva, sending him to the mat at UFC 162 in Las Vegas on July 6. He followed with ground strikes until the match was called at 1:18 of the second round, handing Silva his first loss in UFC and the first knockout of his pro career. A stunned MMA fan base watched as Weidman, who is 10-0, left the cage with a belt over his shoulder.

National Native American magazine going digital

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) ? A weekly magazine that is a leading source of Native American news is abandoning print in favor of an online-only presence, in a cost-cutting move that worries some readers who fear they may lose access because of the switch.

This Week From Indian Country Today, a New York City-based publication owned by the Oneida Nation, will become an online newsletter starting with its July 17 issue.

"In the age we live in, technology is really advanced to a point that we're trying to make sure we're serving what our audience really needs," said Indian Country Today publisher Ray Halbritter. Converting to an online newsletter that is emailed to subscribers will eliminate some of the lag time between when news happens and when it appears in writing, he said.

The magazine, which was started in 1981, provides a mixture of straight news stories and commentary by tribal members, and it is often a way for politicians to get their messages out to Native American communities. President Barack Obama, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and House Speaker John Boehner have all done interviews or written opinion pieces.

For Native Americans on isolated reservations, access to broadband Internet is anything but guaranteed and print media is a staple of life. According to the Federal Communications Commission, just 43 percent of American Indians and Alaska Natives have access to broadband Internet at home, compared to 65 percent of the U.S. population as a whole. Access on reservation and tribal lands is even scarcer, at less than 10 percent, although there are government efforts to expand such access.

Suzanne Sobel, the managing director of Indian Country Today Media Network, said she's not worried about the statistics.

"The reservations that don't have broadband Internet, quite frankly they were also having a hard time getting the magazine too," she said. Sobel said most tribal members on such reservations use their smartphones to get information. She noted that the website had 550,000 unique visitors in June and continues to grow.

Sobel, a former executive with Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, and creative director Christopher Napolitano, former editor at large for Playboy magazine, are leading Indian Country Today's transition to digital-only. The evolution has been in the works for some time, Sobel said. Halbritter said the change will allow the company to expand its international coverage of indigenous issues and work with more contributors.

Sobel and Halbritter declined to say how much money will be saved with the elimination of the print magazine, which had a circulation of about 15,000. A year's subscription to the online newsletter will cost the same as the printed magazine did ? a little less than $20.

Sheena Louise Roetman, a 28-year-old Atlanta resident who is Creek and Lakota, describes Indian Country Today as a trustworthy source that she considers to be the "Native version of the New York Times." She said she worries that by eliminating print copies of Indian Country Today, some tribal members ? especially older ones ? will have less access to the information.

Others think the digital-only strategy makes sense for tribal nations working to improve access to the Internet.

The Seneca Nation in New York, for example, has two reservations with basic dial-up Internet, but the tribal government is working to upgrade to broadband, said Samantha Nephew, a 23-year-old marketing specialist for a Seneca Nation-owned corporation. She said she's a regular reader of the magazine.

"I think when that happens, the Seneca Nation members will have more incentive to check out (Indian Country Today) digitally," she said.

Rhonda LeValdo, the president of the Native American Journalist Association, said Indian Country Today's switch to digital-only could be seen as a positive step for Native communities because it may free up resources for more reporting and accelerate the push for greater access to broadband. And, she added, traditional tribal newspapers may see people who prefer print turning to them for their news.

Tim Giago, the magazine's founder and former owner, is counting on it. Giago, a Native American journalist who lives in South Dakota, founded the Lakota Times in 1981 and later changed its name to Indian Country Today. He sold it to the Oneida Nation before starting another Native American newspaper, the Native Sun News, which doesn't publish stories on its website.

Giago said that for people to understand how Native Americans consume news, they only need to look at the Navajo Times, the newspaper that covers the Navajo Nation.

"It (The Navajo Times) is now the largest Indian newspaper in America and it also continues to grow because most of its readers prefer to hold a real newspaper in their hands and many on the Navajo Nation do not have access to the Internet," he said.
